A NÜ FASHION TREND

While fashion week might be over, trends still continue to impact our way of style.

The streets in this city are flooded with an individuality sense of style just as much as imitation floods our perception of finding our own depicted look. Over the years, I’ve gone through multiple identity crises just trying to find what suits me. While I won’t tell those embarrassing moments of, what the heck was I thinking, I’ve finally found my happy mediums that fit the way of my personality changes.

NÜ Denmark , just so happens to fit that balance. I love dark colors with a hint of shimmer and studs; and during an event, I found myself in the right place. Edgy, sophisticated and fun all in one ball of fashion. Throw in a boyfriend blazer, a Peta approved faux fur jacket and I’m geared up to go. At least for this time of season which happens to be my favorite.

I received an invitation on my Facebook account from a friend I haven’t seen since the last fashion week headache. I’ve since taken a long break working as an event coordinator and haven’t attended much of anything that revolves around fashion. Between the party crashers and finicky bootlegged fashion divas, I’ve altered my perception of how much I can tolerate in this already smoke and mirrors city, but I’ll always support a friend. Joy Bullard, like myself, wears many hats; and I’ve come to respect and appreciate her for all the work she’s done for others while also achieving her very own success. So it came to no surprise that she’d team up with an international brand who’s moving forward with so much growth.
As the blog founder of Trending LA , Joy also wears the hat as a CEO for, Founder Ivan Bitton’s, Style House, known for carrying innovative designers from European Ateliers.

Actress, Kayla Tabish (L) and Liv Johansen (R)

Once introduced to their U.S sales export manager, Liv Johansen and the NÜ Denmark brand, that became magic in the making and a successful night to bring light to a new store.

The event started at 7 pm, and I knew  my friend Efrem would want to join. I also had another event to attend to, so I wanted to make sure I got there right as the doors opened in order to spend an equal amount of time supporting Joy and the new store opening.

Located in the perfect shopping area of Sunset blvd boarding Beverly Hills, Sunset Plaza is the cream de la cream for any up and coming trendy boutique. The evening was already coming to a great start when I read that there was open parking towards the back of the store. When walking up, I saw Joy through a window getting her make-up done by the Michael Vincent academy, but I didn’t want to startle her provoking a makeup mishap of having her eyeliner connecting to her eyebrow.

We were the second ones to arrive as they were setting up in a brightly lighted two leveled store with dressed mannequins propped up on pillars. Empty flute glasses waiting to be filled with bottles of sparkling wine and croissant sandwiches awaited guest as they arrived. Efrem and I started looking around admiring the clothing and its quality considering that he can sniff out quality like a blood hound. Leather, lace and sequence. Looks that could range for every type of girl that has the ability to assemble it to what fits her style. I hadn’t eaten all day and I read that there would be hors d’oeuvres. Granted the sandwiches weren’t my idea of what I assumed to be passed around on trays, but I made it a point to be the first to grab a few. And with good reason.

Three women made sure that the store was ready for its grand opening. One particular woman stood out with an accent and genuine smile of excitement, Liv Johansen. Efrem made a cheers to her in her native language and from there started an organic conversation of fashion and travels.

Efrem and I made acquaintance with one of the other store personnel’s who was a total gem. She kept the bubbly poured for guest who gravitated towards the register area as if it were an open bar. At some point I was even kissing the flower arrangements as people kept pushing towards my personal space in order to get fresh new glasses aside from the guest who couldn’t separate their used ones from the ones that hadn’t been touched.

Gradually, more guest started to arrive until the place was completely filled. Fashionistas and fellow bloggers alike enjoyed themselves to the ambiance of treats and apparel.

The sandwiches were going fast, but easily being replaced by signature cupcakes sponsored by Taylor Made Pastries along with vegetable dip. Now, there’s a reason for why they call it finger foods, because there always seems to be too many fingers on these types of foods.

Like this guy right here who made it his mission to individually pick through each sandwich just to see what ingredients were in between. Really?!? who knows all the places your hands have been. We couldn’t help but to watch him plant himself near the food as we waited for him to be that one person to double dip with no couth or shame. The exact reason why I was the first to grab a plate.

It’s a hard knock life for a germaphobe

Another frumpy looking woman who made the complimentary treats her personal complimentary buffet, asked me if I wanted to share her plate after walking around with it in enough time for dust to collect. Efrem and I just looked at each and that became my cue to walk around.

I made my way up the stairs where more guest were roaming through the racks of clothing. I couldn’t help but to engage with two young men that were adoring a shoulder pad piece made to accessorize an outfit while adding a bit of rock and rebellion. For the price of $100, I could definitely see that in my Dior box of jewelry. Another item that sold out quickly was a gorgeous thoroughly studded grey sweater for $165. That sold out faster than I could whip out my credit card.

As more and more people made there way inside and to walk the red carpet, we awaited for the rock band No Darling to perform. Only problem was that we waited, and waited and well waited some more. I was starting to wonder if they were more interested in being at the party rather than performing for it. Closer to the time that I needed to make my way out is finally when I got a beat of a drum. If you like the sounds of The Strokes, Kings of Leon, Hot Hot Hot then you’d like them, but I only base that by the few minutes I was able to listen to them. Joy and Liv made their way around the event to engage with other guest and friends while people also engaged with each other.

Designer Odain Watson, Joy, and dah! myself

I was happy to have seen my friends and fashion designers, Odain Watson, owner of Odaingerous and Perris Harris of, Parris Fashion. Another friend I haven’t seen in awhile was photographer and retail editor, Andrew Asch of Apparel News, who also wrote an article on the event NÜ Denmark Apparel . I never see this group without a smile, so to have to leave right as they walked through the door makes me rethink ever planning events back to back within the same night. Before I had to leave, I wanted to make sure I said my goodbyes and congratulate the lovely Liv. That’s until Joy mentioned that I had a partying gift awaiting my taking.

Well I guess I won’t be going anywhere right now.

I’m kind of like a child where once you tell me something then I’m holding you to it. I almost dropped my plans once she stated that I was also able to pick out an item on a selected rack. Now that I was not expecting. I knew they had mentioned gift bags and it was noted that for those who spent a certain amount on their first purchase would receive a thank you bag, but this was extremely generous on Liv and Joys behalf. Being that I would’ve loved to purchase the entire store I really didn’t know what I wanted and it’s not every event I expect to leave with a gift, so I just went wear my eyes landed.

image

I chose a really cute long sleeve black and white viscose blouse with delicately sewn on metal ring embellishments, and a lace embroidered strip going down the back. I had to wear it out for dinner and cocktails later in the week. Unbeknownst to me, I wore it backwards, but for a girl who likes to show some skin, that’s a great type of fashionable versatility for you.

Liv just radiates positive vibes

Liv personally wrapped my gift and before I left she, myself and her significant other took a photo. Within those couple of hours, I could see how much this store has already flourished by the amount of response they received prior and during the event.

Liv and NÜ have definitely come a long way when just within a short time of 3 years, Liz started off as a trainee for the brand after showing a fondness of the line and company. There, she found herself moving up the corporate ladder with more growth and knowledge of the brand by becoming a sales rep which then landed her the position of U.S. marketing manager. Just a year and few months ago, Liv was officially accepted into an exclusive program at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, in order to export to the U.S market. With all the buzz she contributes to the goals and success of this store, even celebrities and socialites are flocking to be a part of the NÜ army. Now I’d say that is keeping your eyes on the prize and reaching the golden treasure.

I’m always happy to see a great turn out for those who are more than deserving of their hard work and work ethics, and to have them come so far even from a foreign country is even more aspiring. I see many big things awaiting the NÜ brand here in the U.S and hopefully when all things work out, they’ll be able to open more stores in just as big booming cities. New York, Miami, Vegas who knows what’s in the future,  but I’m sending all my blessings.

So to Liv, Joy and the NÜ brand, Ill say
tillykke!

“One of my favorite quotes is, once you make a decision the universe conspires to make it happen. It is an incredible feeling having worked so hard and now seeing it succeed and unfold. I wish for everyone that they get to live their dreams as well” ~ Liv Johansen
