Hot Spot Sundays

SQUARE ONE SQUARE UP

It’s Sunday Funday and today I needed a freaking break! I needed that me time with my friends who are able to take away that added stress called “life in a dingy box”.

Square One Dinning was a suggestion by my friend Ashton, so I called a few of the girls that I knew didn’t have any set plans and made it a girls day out. I’ve never heard of this spot, but apparently it’s a popular celebrity one from how it was described.  Ok, so why not give it a go. Considering that “Aunt Flow” just had to make her way into town, she was flowing all through out my uterus and I needed to get my fix of something sweet.

Right off of Fountain in a small area a few sidewalks up from Sunset and across from the Scientology building, we found free parking. I mean the word free parking in Los Angeles is like finding a miracle. Now this spot can be missed if you’re unfamiliar with its location and if you have a passenger whose only a passenger that sits in your car, rides and does nothing more. Good thing it’s not heavily busy on this street so you can take your time and try to spot the address. Luckily for us there were quite a few people outside, so I knew we had reached our destination. When we walked up, the host(s) were extremely friendly and the wait was reasonable for 15-20 mins unlike most places where it’s 45-1hr wait. The Griddle, BLD, Toast .

While we waited, I would glance at this gorgeous swirl of a man with hypnotic blue eyes. He looked back a few times, but that’s exactly where I chose to leave it even though the energy I got from him when he chose to stand at a nearby distance, I probably could have exchanged numbers. Aubreeanna was quick to point out a familiar face from the hit show Cougar Town, but his face looked like any others and I carried on with my work. Hope that didn’t hurt the actors pride. Our 15 minutes came by quick when they called my name and we were sat inside. The space is perfect for enough elbow room and no one was sitting on top of one another in order to enjoy their food.

It was a mixed crowd, surprisingly quiet, and very well managed in a structure you might not find in too many small places hence The Griddle. The temperature was a little stuffy considering we were sitting next to an open door and because “Aunt Flow” was taking boxing classes to my stomach, I needed my prescription of Vicodine and some hot tea. Alison suggested we sit outside so I wouldn’t die from that extra bit of heat. We waved over the host who was about to sit a party and kindly asked her if she wouldn’t mind sitting us outside. She noted that she needed to sit the other guest and then she would attend to us shortly. Again! this host is on top of her A game. She came, grabbed us and walked us directly outside onto the patio with extra ventilation and even offered us a choice of which table to sit at. Oh look it’s the Cougar Town actor…silly him he thinks we’re following him. Of course I chose the table that had a little wobble to it, but with a golden touch of quick thinking our host fixed that in seconds. As we sat down, I was hoping our server would make her way over so I could get that cup of tea.

There was one tall girl who we thought had our section while I watched as she went from table to table just to see if she had the sense enough to acknowledge us within a time line. Being a side server myself who is famous for self handing up to ten tables including parties up to 100 people, it’s only natural for me to critique other servers.  Of course not surprised I had to stab her with my eye and cut her with my eyebrow until she stated she’d be right with us Dang you Aunt flow you’re bringing out the witch in me.

I was already prepared for her to take everyones order and answer a bunch of questions, but I made it very cut and dry that the tea was on crunch time with an added stir of please. Quickly, she grabbed me a cup of hot water and a tea packet and said she would be right back…but…where’s the honey and the spoon?! . Lord. Moments later another server Kaitlin who I didn’t even notice outside, came to our table asking if we were ready to order. I was a little confused doing a head spin thinking the other girl was our girl. She laughed and just as she was about to walk away, I noticed her wearing a gold Henna tattoo just like Aubreeannas.

Ok this is going to be our girl and I made sure of that. Perfect time too, because while her and Aubreeanna shared ish and Giggles I took photos and asked for her to do the same. Wow I look good! A natural photographer on the side I would assume.

She took our drink orders and went to grab me some honey and a spoon while also managing to attend to her other tables with the same bubbly personality she had with us. Not even a minute after she walked away, the other girl approached our table asking if we needed anything.  Ok now really? I have an erupted volcano in my stomach and with you moving at this rate there is going to be some serious hot lava in this area. I told her that we chose the other up to speed girl and she smiled and obliged. Don’t get me wrong, the poor girl was an absolute sweetheart, but I’m on a speed of 100 with the same temperature in body degree. Kaitlin came back, she brought me my spoon, gave me my honey at which I popped my pill and sat to wait out my pain. She also placed down three small glasses that look like shot glasses on ice Oh it’s about to get turnt up on water yall!

Aubreeanna and I chose to share our dishes of French Toast and Garlic chicken sausage. Before finalizing our order Kaitlin mentioned that there was a specials board if we wanted to take a look at it.

We walked up to the chalk board that was prompt on their wall and ding ding ding I found what my Gynecologist ordered! Cold berries and HazelNut French Toast with cream yes! We placed our order and sat back to relax.

We laughed at the coincidence of our names Amber, Aubree, and Alison and if my friend Ashton would have been serving us, that would have been too cute. Our conversations ran real smooth being that we’re all talkers and socializers and by this time those two pills of vicodins were keeping me on Cloud 9 10,11,12, all the way to 100. I just recently had surgery on my arm, so I’m not one to dose up on pills, but the feeling of bliss was all that I needed after the stressful week I’ve been having. Our food came with some extra plates and we went in for the kill.

Aubree and I dug into our food before I could get the photo of it before looking like slop

Our plates looked delicious while Alisons just looked like bread with some brown goo.

But looks like she was enjoying it!

Of course she wanted to join in on the party Aubree and I were having. Why wouldn’t she?! We shared for the sake of Sharing is Caring.  We talked about life, made more plans and I was seeing rainbows and butterflies.  Kaitlin shortly checked back on us asking if there was anything else that we needed and dropped off our checks.

Even though Aubree and I split our meal I was feeling very generous. I’ve been having such a great week outside of work and had wanted to pay it forward with what little I could, so I tipped Kaitlin graciously and we got up and left. The food was delicious at great portions for the prices. The staff and bussers were incredibly welcoming including a small women who I practiced my spanish with in exchange for lessons.  She was absolutely lovely always clearing our plates to make us room. Never overbearing to where I would have to bite her hand if I was still eating.

Not before getting into my car Alison wanted to do a little photo shoot against someone’s garage. Your typical Hollywood photo shoot. Sunday Fundays are always the best time to check out and unwind and today that goal was accomplished.
