Man Crush Mondays

SHILOH FERNANDEZ

It’s one thing to have a crush on a guy and to daydream about the day that you’ll come to meet them, but what if your infatuation happened after the fact of making that initial contact. It happens yeah, that’s a given at least for me, but how often? And how often is it that you have to go years acting completely nonchalant all in the same breath of making light conversation out of the convenience of your mutual social surroundings. Well welcome to my life.

That’s what makes this Man Crush Mondays a little more interesting yet a bit more complicated on my end.

Shiloh Fernandez, known for his roles in Red Riding Hood, Evil Dead and Deal Girl alongside other films, is quite the intriguing guy you could only imagine him to be. From his uniquely gorgeous eyes to his Johnny Depp/ John Meyer resemblance, he is by far an interesting beauty to appreciate.

Shiloh has been in the public eye for years and almost dodged the mega stardom of playing the famous vampire, Edward Cullen in Twilight. With his charming good looks and just as charming versatile acting chops, it’s no wonder hes melted the hearts of many fans and admirers. Most fans will usually become obsessed by the way of social media or in other words the “social norm” when a new hot actor plays the lead role on the hottest show or silver screen, though for me, it’s more at arms reach from the typical  “fandemonium”.

Here’s the tea

Back when I first got into acting, I started in the way of background. It was probably one of the most humbling  learning experience in the way of trying to pursue my dream from the bottom up. My experiences were 89% positive and always consistent until the Union went on strike and I had to put everything on the back burner.  Through acting, I made some of the most meaningful long term friendships and had the most memorable experience that not everyone could be able to take with them. Through acting I got a chance to see all and everything that isn’t so lucky for everyone else.

Six years ago when I worked on the set of a show called United States of Tara starring Australian actress Toni Collette, I wasn’t expecting anything more than a fifteen hour days of work hanging out with friends while watching a film crew and actors making tv magic.

During filming, I remember sitting in an auditorium with other background actors as we were playing the roles of audience members. Work tends to become a life on an island when you’re one out of many others and you can make yourself appear invisible. Just drifting in and out of space or wherever else your mind wants to take you and still get paid for it more than if you were serving tables. Then again that depends on the days and upgrades. While watching a dance recital performance being played out by young ballerinas on a stage, I specifically remember spotting one particular guy in the middle of the crowd. I wasn’t too sure if he was a part of the background artist or a friend of the cast. He wasn’t dressed in any way you’d  think audience members would be asked to arrive for a show wearing black, red and white grunge wear. I remember him wearing plaid skin tight pants, a black shirt, his hair gelled with ruler high spikes and eye makeup.

Over the years I’ve gone through my phases of finding the most unique individuals more attractive than what’s to be considered acceptable, and so I became intrigued by him. As he sat in the audience, I became curious by his laid back demeanor and Don’t give a what attitude.

By the second half of the day where the scene moved outside, the background grew smaller and I stayed. Making myself comfortable outside of the school lockers where a scene was being performed, I had noticed that he wasn’t a friend nor an extra at all, but rather one of the lead actors playing, Benjamin  Lambert, as the boyfriend of Toni Collette’s daughter. Watching him do take after take, getting in and out of the car in between scenes, I became even more smitten. Sure the style in clothing for his character made him look just a tad bit ridiculous, but I saw underneath the clothes.

Not literally for you dirty minded people

At one point while sitting up against the lockers, he made his way further back from the shot while they were probably rotating the camera angles and that’s when it happened. Our eye contact. His cheeky grin and gorgeous eyes set my heart to a different degree of fire. It wasn’t enough for the eye contact, but the clear as day reciprocation of innocent flirting was not what I had expected and ever since then I’ve been sprung.

Okay, so here’s where we’re going to get interesting. A pretty well known and incredibly talented photographer, known for his courageous photography with somewhat dangerously risky and raunchy levels of getting the right shot, has worked closely with Shiloh on many shoots

Tyler Shields, is one of the best celebrity photographers in Los Angeles.  Throwing the wildest parties for his photo launches, which typically take place around his birthdays, he’s brought Shiloh to the forefront of being a sought after celebrity through his videos and art. Being a fan of his work, I was ecstatic to see the aftermath of what he produced with Shiloh. Not only was that a coincidence, but a mutual acquaintance that I’ve been around for years happened to be best friends with Shiloh too.

I swear this city is so damn small

Every now and then I like to go out and support the promoter, who hands down is definitely in my top 5 of best promoters I’ve known over the period of thirteen years. So to think that I would be in the same room as a guy I’ve been crushing on from years back is a little bit unimaginable. Even at some point, it’s hard to separate being a fan when the actor himself only knows you as someone he once worked with on a normal day.

Shiloh is an absolute sweetheart, and has always made the effort to acknowledge me like any other person that I’ve known would. I admire his humility his charm and his efforts in just being an ultimate down to earth guy. Though it doesn’t help me much when I still think that my crush is standing right near me making casual conversation, I don’t have the slightest clue of what to talk about. You can say that I can get a little socially awkward and yet my name is AmberSocial, on the contrary. Here’s the deal. I’m more outgoing with guys I have very little interest in rather than the ones that I do. So, I do things a little backwards, but I’m working on that diligently. There’s no stopping him now, as there is more to come of his dreamy good looks. From the cover of magazines to being the on screen love interest of Selena Gomez music video, Heart wants what it want, he can only continue going up from here.  So there you have it my Man Crush Monday and make sure to check out my Tequila Tuesday tomorrow where you can read about Shiloh when we rocked it out 80’s style!

In the meantime though
