I don’t even know what took me so long to write about this beautiful man named Idris Elba, but here he is being The Man of Man Crush Monday.
Since the first day that he graced himself on our screens, I have admired him for his charm, sex appeal, work ethics and of course his accent. He has been known for his universal acting chops that has played a dramatic part in his character roles as well as leading to a change of comfortably that needed an extra push in the way we see movies; hence 007.
Like most of my man crushes, I’m never fully involved with knowing every detail of their lives because it takes away the mystery of the unknowing. I’m a thrill seeker and he just happens to thrill me. He has this presence of a man who is so universal that he can be accepted by just about anyone in any setting. Being that of a black man, I truly respect that. Not many black men, as I truly feel, are capable or willing to break from that pigeonholed mentality in staying stagnant to one persona. Which ironically he made this exact same statement. In this industry and being of a minority, many find their triumphs in building their own sanctuaries of success through type casting or community outreach that tends to subliminally backfire in some cases.
“If I aspired to be on a level with the Denzel Washingtons and the Robert De Niros, I had to reinvent myself. I had to transform the way industry saw me. I had to climb out of the box.”
How do you not admire someone who clearly understands that in this day and age versus being complacent in all that they do.
With Idris like so few, his reputation exceeds all expectations; then again we still want more, and that is something that I wouldn’t mind. Even though he’s contributed to our generation more than just his dreamy looks, unfortunately in this case, I’m just here to give you something to drool over.
