Flaunt magazine has been known for throwing parties for any given reason where the average person would consider it as a typical night out. Even including breaking records of pages being written might bring together an office celebration
Since their last Flaunt launch party, I had high expectations that this evening would be packed with bottles of champagne that would last until the break of dawn. Performances by even bigger emerging artist, more celebrity guest and well, just a party bigger than the last. Unfortunately, that was not the case with this nights events; and in fact, my interest shifted when a more colorful collaboration caught my eye. Literally.
The Flaunt event was being held at the Houston Hospitality Brothers popular spot, Dirty Laundry with a few sponsorship’s. A tad bit smaller and intimate from the Roosevelt Hotel a few blocks up where crowds of the cities fashionistas and socialites gathered. While I enjoyed the more intimate approach and the exclusive vibe which HH is commonly known for, I felt it lacked with the creativity factor. As Lauren and I made our way through the narrow lounge, we didn’t find much Flaunt in the appeal of things; yet instead, we did happen to catch small objects floating around on tables as if to say Take me home!
Can’t really say I had no shame in grabbing one over a magazine which I have plenty of on my coffee table. They were eye shadows by ColourPop. Not sure if they were placed there for the point of a decorative feel which prevented doors from opening at the time guest had arrived. But if that were the case, waiting outside in the cold was a bit far fetched.
After grabbing a couple of drinks that knocked me out towards the end of the night, we walked into a room that seemed to have more life than the actual party itself.
An area was specifically set up with make-up and florescent lights in the background as a small group of people were applying make-up to the curious guest. Lauren who’s more of a cosmetic guru through her blog The Leaux Project than myself took the opportunity of having her very own make-up tutorial done on her phenomenal cheekbones.
I on the other hand was more intrigued with the lines of gift bags sitting against the wall.
Watching as Lauren was getting her make-up done, I noticed from the corner of my eye another party guest having a stunning turquoise blue applied to her lips. Wow! It actually went perfect with her entire look. As I complimented the daring fun nature, I made my way over to one beauty specialist in hopes to get a better understanding of this line.
I was approached by a very welcoming blonde who radiated beauty either from the cosmetics they were promoting or just her genuine smile. She definitely set the prime example of the entire group looking fresh to death to the face. Although I tried not to badger them about the gift bags, she approved me for having one. And whether I’m a make-up junkie or not… I was thrilled!
I’m not one to turn my nose up to anything free that gives me an unbiased chance of trying out a product; and I will definitely say that this cosmetic line might have a new customer. After trying out their Super Shock Shadow, I was hooked.
The creamy blend of shimmer and a copper rose hue went perfectly with my dark complexion. Not only that, but I was informed through a friend how their line is a hit in the ethnic community with women of color.
Colour Pop is the ideal make-up line to carry in your bag. Though I’m not one to put comparisons at odds, I have been a buyer of Mac cosmetics over the years where I’ve found my face falling to the ground as I packed on my make-up by the pounds. Not cute; and if time goes by throughout the day, you might end up a shade of vomit green, clear pale or Saran Wrap from all the oils building up. Again not cute. I prefer that pop in my life so I can feel comfortable throughout the day as well as a smooth finish. The ColourPop team are always researching the newest trends of the cosmetic world as they should in order to keep up with what’s current in order to meet their consumers cravings. One location the owner frequently travels to is Korea once a year which I find genius.
I’ve had my embarrassing moments in my teen years of wearing the wrong make-up and clearly overtime I’ve perfected it. ColourPop is fun, light and easy which is why they have over 1 million followers who can purchase their fixes online at an extremely affordable price.
The even more mind blowing part is that they’re animal free and Vegan! Which is perfect for the way that I’m sure many are living today. So all my Veggies and Vegans can rejoice!
Yes even you!
But! Due to our stinky FDA guidelines, unfortunately the shades for the eyes are not. What happened to smashing up blueberries and clay before FDA ever existed? I say that if there’s a will then there’s a way. Either way, ColourPop still continues to involve all their customers needs in order to meet the demand of the market which always comes with trial, error and then success. For a girl like myself, I need to know that what I put on my face is exactly that; and ColourPop has formulas with such intense pigmentation’s that their line ends up working perfectly for someone like myself. I can’t decide if I’m Mocha, Ebony or Almond Beige, I mean the colors could go on. It’s a tough world for a dark skin girl when it comes to make-up.
So, What’s in store for the New Year?! Well it’s top secret. Ooooh well considering we’re in December now, that top secret isn’t too far along to reveal, but in the meantime my little beauty queens.
Yaaaas you too!
We’ll just have to wait up until then!
Stay Popping!
Older photos of myself were not added to this blog for reason that I have destroyed them so they will never see the light of peoples eyes again.
Big thanks to ColourPop’s product Development manager, Erin, for my very own Pop Box!
