Social Saturday

SWEET SIXTY HOTEL

ha! Wouldn’t that be the day they re-aired that ridiculous show of obnoxious self-righteous kids celebrating their over the top (Just for Show) birthdays only to have their parents in some serious IRS collections down the road. Yeah well thats not going to happen (crossing fingers) Actually its The Sixty Hotel in Beverly Hills where we were really celebrating.

Beverly Hills….what a pompous city in Los Angeles, but I love it! The perfect setting to blow out a few candles with friends.

My lovely Rachel, TheMcCordList,  invited me to attend her husbands surprise birthday bash. Out of a list of locations I had helped to think up prior to her final decision, I completely forgot about this place though it wasn’t named The Sixty Hotel over a year ago previously being The Thompson.

Oh the memories…
This place use to hold some of the hottest Social events and weekly gatherings up at the rooftop and you better believe I never missed one. Now as the Sixty Hotel and with time that has passed its slowed down a bit, but still has the same energy of just appreciating the Los Angeles atmosphere. Aside from our private area there were still just enough people lounging around the lower bar while a shin dig near the pooldeck was gathering.

The sunset is surely beautiful as the day transitions to night which makes it perfect for a little one on one date, group wine and dine or even a toss in the pool by a bunch of boozed up drunks

Typically when I show up to the party I then become the party and maybe even this night, the entree for some hungry females leering at me like a pack of wolves (I can’t tell if these females are admiring or intimidated?) maybe if they spoke a word or two  “Hi….I like you’re skirt” I’d be able to differentiate between their vibes. As the evening grew lighter by the glimmering lights of the city and the blaze of the fire from the heaters (that could damn near burn out your hair) more guest continued to arrive awaiting the birthday boy. Our hostess directed us to another section of our area behind a curtain at which we’d be able to better surprise him without notice.

This guy was anticipating surprising the crap out of the lucky guy as we waited….and waited…where is he? and waited for him to finish his drink at the bar ha! thats a lush for you.

SURPRISE Rick!!! see that drink in one hand, he surely was gearing up to get the party started and so he did acknowledging every person in attendance even looking at me (Token black female) with the where did you come from?! expression…Im joking…you can’t really miss me in a room.

As the night went on I did what I do best….wandered. Ladies the whole standing thinking you’re too pretty to move a little will get you thrown over the balcony if you’re with me. Surprisingly enough I can be extremely shy and socially awkward, but I still get restless. I walked around a bit reminiscing the nights I use to frequent here during my years as the little socialite and unfortunately I didn’t get the same feel. Watching the people at the bar just seemed so uninteresting where I wouldn’t even know how to engage in a conversation. On the other hand our group mixed with people of many backrounds had me back peddling.

I stayed closer to our group because it just seemed to click without question.  I enjoyed the friends of friends and the conversations outside of “What do you do” I hate that question! its such a pretentious way of leveling yourself amongst others. Here we just talked about the love of life! So why not take a selfie and enjoy ours!

Aren’t we fabulous I must say. So its a party right? Lets see you’ve got the guest you’ve got the drinks and bar and you even have the view, but there just seems to be one minor thing missing…

Ah there it is! All that luscious sugar. Whats a birthday party without a cake? and was it a cake…German chocolate which is why you see the light because that just so happens to be the best cake ever. Though the best part is that Rachel actually made it herself…cheers to you girl! and for those dark chocolate cupcakes to the left were right on point Dark and rich…just like me (Wink) Ha I wish.

The night was exceptional as I would love to enjoy it again, but would I visit the Sixty any other night on my own? Mmmm it depends.  If they could bring back the life it once had yes but it seems to me that going there with a set group of friends would be more my speed. Id have to say it would be a hit or miss as I wouldn’t plan on having it on my bar bounce list.
